‘Game of Thrones’ Headed to Broadway’ Will Revive Iconic Characters

Game of Thrones‘ headed to broadway’ will revive iconic characters. The hit HBO television show “Game of Thrones,” based on author George R.R. Martin’s fantasy novel series “A Song of Ice and Fire,” is Broadway-bound, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Martin is reportedly translating his own award-winning story into a stage show, set to debut in New York City, London’s West End and Australia in 2023.

The play, written by Martin alongside award-winning English playwright Duncan MacMillan, will be set during The Great Tourney at Harrenhal, an event taking place 16 years before when the Emmy Award-winning series’s story began.

“The play will for the first time take audiences deeper behind the scenes of a landmark event that previously was shrouded in mystery,” says the play’s official description, according to the Reporter.

“Featuring many of the most iconic and well-known characters from the series, the production will boast a story centered around love, vengeance, madness and the dangers of dealing in prophecy, in the process revealing secrets and lies that have only been hinted at until now,” it adds.

The play, produced by Simon Painter and Tim Lawson, aims to shed more light on a part of Westeros lore often referenced throughout the novels and television series, Martin explained.

“The seeds of war are often planted in times of peace,” the author said in a statement obtained by the Reporter. “Few in Westeros knew the carnage to come when highborn and smallfolk alike gathered at Harrenhal to watch the finest knights of the realm compete in a great tourney, during the Year of the False Spring.”

He added, “It is a tourney oft referred during HBO’s Game of Thrones, and in my novels, A Song of Ice & Fire … and now, at last, we can tell the whole story… on the stage.”

The series finale of “Game of Thrones” premiered on HBO in May of 2019, after outpacing Martin’s written works, leaving fans to wonder when he would complete his novel series.

“I expect these last two books of mine will fill 3000 manuscript pages between them before I’m done … and if more pages and chapters and scenes are needed, I’ll add them,” he said at the time.
